If you are considering buying a home in Grayton Beach…or anywhere else for that matter, you need to be aware of the different types of environmental issues you may face. Not only are there the less common situations that may render your home or property unfit for use (sinkholes, toxic waste, etc.) but there are also cases in which the state or federal government may restrict or prohibit your ability to use your property.
Not all environmental issues are immediately recognizeable. Many require that an expert skilled in identifying things such as endangered species be brought in to assess and document the situation. In these cases it is important to have an attorney or other expert on your side to counter whatever claims the government may make.
Above all, be sure to do whatever due diligence is appropriate with your particular case. Buying a home is not the time to learn “on the job.” Get as much background and knowledge on the situation ahead of time as possible or you may come to regret it later.
In the coming weeks, we’ll be posting a few blogs about the particular environmental issues that can come about. So, be sure to check back each week. Hopefully this information will assist you in being a better informed buyer and property owner.
